Central Swansea

Central Swansea covers the commercial and civic heart of the city, arranged around Castle Square, Oxford Street and Wind Street. Swansea Market on Oxford Street is the largest indoor market in Wales and sits beside the ruins of Swansea Castle and St Mary’s Church. The Waterfront at the mouth of the River Tawe includes Swansea Marina and the National Waterfront Museum, with berths for leisure boats and a quay used for events and riverside walks.

Shopping streets, civic buildings and cultural venues are within short walking distance: the Dylan Thomas Centre stands near the junction of Wind Street and the marina, while the Guildhall and transport hubs lie to the west. Castle Square and Wind Street host regular events and a concentration of bars and restaurants, while the market and museum anchor weekday trade. Regular bus routes and Swansea railway station provide links across the city and to the coast, making the central area compact and straightforward to explore on foot.
