Cilgerran & Crymych

Cilgerran sits on the south bank of the River Teifi where a narrow gorge cuts through the valley. The village is dominated by the ruin of a medieval castle on a cliff above a sharp bend in the river, and a stone bridge links the riverbanks below. Riverside paths follow the Teifi and pass old mills, willow stands and pasture used for grazing. Local lanes and footpaths radiate into small farms and wooded combes; birdlife and river trout are part of the working landscape that shapes daily life.

A few miles inland, Crymych occupies upland ground at the northern edge of Pembrokeshire where pasture meets the lower slopes of the Preseli foothills. The village developed as a local service centre for hill farms and remains a focus for community activity, schooling and small-scale agriculture. Field patterns of hedgerow and stone banks are crossed by lanes and public rights of way that lead to high ridges and sheltered valleys. The area is used for walking, seasonal grazing and the routines of rural life rather than concentrated tourist infrastructure.
