Cwm-y-glo is a ward situated on the northern slopes of the Glyderau range, overlooking Llyn Padarn. The area is primarily residential, with housing spread across the hillside above the A4086 road. Its position provides direct access to the lake and the surrounding mountainous landscape, which defines much of its character and local activity.

The ward includes part of the Padarn Country Park, with the Llanberis Lake Railway running along the lake's shore. The former Dinorwig Quarry slate tips form a dominant industrial landmark on the hillside. The community is closely linked to the neighbouring village of Llanberis, sharing services and facilities.
