Cynwyl Elfed

Cynwyl Elfed ward is a predominantly rural area in central Carmarthenshire. Its landscape is characterised by rolling farmland, wooded valleys, and scattered small villages. The ward is centred on the village of Cynwyl Elfed itself, which lies along the A484 road. Settlement is dispersed, with communities like Cwmduad and Gwynfe forming key local hubs within the agricultural terrain. The River Duad flows through the northern part of the ward.

The area's history is closely tied to agriculture and local chapel culture. A notable feature is the presence of the Cynwyl Elfed stone, an ancient inscribed monument located near the parish church. Economic activity remains largely focused on farming, though the ward also contains some light industry and serves as a residential area for commuters to larger towns like Carmarthen. The terrain includes parts of the Brechfa Forest to the northeast.
