Elswick South

Elswick South lies on the west side of Newcastle upon Tyne, a residential area threaded by Elswick Road and served by frequent bus routes into the city centre. Streets are mostly Victorian terraced housing with rows that back onto narrow alleys known locally as ginnels. The riverside edge retains traces of heavy industry: the site of the former Armstrong engineering and shipbuilding works is a recurring landmark, and several former factory buildings have been repurposed for small workshops and storage.
