Ely East

Ely East sits in the western sector of Cardiff, roughly four miles from the city centre. The area was developed mainly as council housing from the 1930s through the 1950s, and its street pattern and terraces reflect that period of expansion. Local shops, primary schools and community centres form the everyday hub, while allotments and small playing fields are interspersed among residential streets. The River Ely runs along the eastern edge and is crossed by a number of road and pedestrian bridges, creating a visible edge between the neighbourhood and adjacent green spaces.

Public transport links run along the main routes out of the city, giving straightforward bus access to Cardiff centre and nearby industrial estates. Community groups and local events use halls and parks for activities and practical support. Small parades of shops serve daily needs, and some longer-standing businesses trace their presence back several decades, following the area’s post-war growth and later redevelopment efforts.
