About

Farnborough is a residential neighbourhood in the London Borough of Bromley, within the BR6 postcode area and a couple of miles south-east of Orpington town centre. The area grew from a small village core and now contains a mix of housing, local shops and short stretches of green space that meet the suburban street pattern. Public transport is mainly by bus, with regular services linking Farnborough to Orpington station and to Bromley town centre, making rail connections beyond the borough straightforward.

Community life centres on local facilities such as the primary school, community hall and playing fields, and a network of footpaths that connect to neighbouring Keston and Locksbottom. Small commercial clusters sit along the main roads while quieter lanes open onto allotments and open ground used for weekend sport and walking. The scale of the streets and the pattern of lanes around the old village core still indicate the area’s origins as farmland on the edge of south-east London.
