Gilfach

Gilfach is a residential ward situated on the western edge of the Caerphilly county borough. The area is primarily composed of housing estates built in the mid-20th century, with terraced and semi-detached homes. It lies close to the larger town of Bargoed, with the A469 road providing a main transport link. The landscape is characterised by its position on the steep slopes of the Rhymney Valley, offering views across to neighbouring communities.

The local geography is defined by the Gilfach Stream, a tributary of the Rhymney River, which runs through the area. Recreational space is provided by Parc Gilfach, a community park with sports facilities. The ward is served by Gilfach Fargoed railway station on the Rhymney Line, connecting it directly to Cardiff. A notable local landmark is the former Gilfach Colliery, the site of which has been largely reclaimed, reflecting the area's historical industrial character.
