About

Harlech sits on the Cardigan Bay coast beneath the 13th‑century Harlech Castle, one of the Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd UNESCO sites. The village street climbs from the seafront toward the castle, which overlooks a long sandy beach and the intertidal flats below; the Cambrian Coast railway serves Harlech, linking the seafront with small stations along the bay. The local choral tradition includes the song “Men of Harlech,” and the castle’s curtain walls and steep stairways remain central to how the town is arranged on the hillside.

A few miles inland, Llanbedr occupies low farmland and dunes near the coast. Llanbedr Airfield, a former RAF station, still shapes the skyline and is used today for light aviation and aircraft testing. Between the two settlements are coastal marshes and strips of sand that flood at high tide, producing wide views at low water and regular passage for shorebirds. Paths and quiet lanes connect lanes and fields, giving access to the shoreline and the scattered farms that make up the local landscape.
