Hengoed

Hengoed ward lies in the Caerphilly county borough, centred on the community of Hengoed itself alongside the neighbouring settlement of Maesycwmmer. The area is characterised by its steep valleys, with residential streets terraced along the hillsides overlooking the Rhymney River. The landscape is historically shaped by the coal industry, with former colliery sites now largely reclaimed by green space, forming part of the wider valley's regeneration.

A prominent local feature is the Hengoed Viaduct, a striking 19th-century railway structure that spans the valley. The ward is connected by the A469 road and retains active rail links on the Rhymney Line. Community facilities are focused around local schools, recreational grounds, and the Maesycwmmer Industrial Estate, which provides employment space.
