About

Horsham District sits in West Sussex in England’s South East, with the market town of Horsham at its administrative centre. The district includes towns and larger villages such as Billingshurst, Pulborough, Steyning and Storrington, and a network of smaller settlements set among farmland and wooded areas. Local services and community facilities are concentrated in the main towns, while smaller parishes keep village halls, churches and local shops that serve surrounding agricultural land and commuter routes into neighbouring areas.

Much of the district is shaped by river valleys and managed woodlands. St Leonard’s Forest lies to the west of Horsham town, and the River Arun runs through Pulborough where the RSPB reserve at Pulborough Brooks supports wetland birds and wintering wildfowl. South of Horsham the landscape meets the northern edge of the South Downs National Park. On the lowlands the Knepp Estate runs a rewilding project, where free-roaming herds of longhorn cattle, Exmoor ponies and other grazers are used to restore natural processes across former farmland.
