About

Leven and Tickton are neighbouring villages and a single civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, set on the low-lying Holderness plain. Tickton sits beside the River Hull while Leven lies a little to the east across farmland and drainage dykes. The parish contains areas of carr woodland and meadow that follow old drainage channels, a pattern that reflects centuries of reclaimed agricultural land rather than steep hills or cliffs.

Local life centres on a village green, a village hall and a handful of shops and pubs that serve surrounding farms. A primary school and community clubs provide focal points for residents, and footpaths and bridleways connect lanes, riverbanks and small woodlands. The floodplain by the Hull supports wetland plants and wintering and breeding birds, making parts of the parish important for local natural history as well as farming. Regular village events and informal recreational uses keep the settlements linked to neighbouring Beverley and the surrounding countryside.
