About

Llanelli South sits on the southern shore of the Loughor estuary in Carmarthenshire, where the town meets the Millennium Coastal Park. The coast here is defined by tidal flats and saltmarsh that attract wintering and passage waders, and the WWT Llanelli wetland reserve has hides overlooking the Burry Inlet and its exposed cockle beds at low tide. Paths along the waterfront link promenades, cycle routes and stretches of reclaimed industrial foreshore that were reshaped for public access in recent decades.

The urban area behind the coast contains a mix of terraces, post-war housing and newer developments, together with a concentrated town centre offering shops, an indoor market and community facilities. Remnants of the town’s tinplate and coal-era industry are still visible around the docks and railway sidings, while the local station on the West Wales line provides regular rail services. On weekday evenings and weekends the coastal paths and reserves are used by walkers, anglers and birdwatchers who come for the shoreline and the views across the inlet.
