The place is best known for its early Christian site around St Illtud’s Church, where an insular monastic school was established in the 5th–6th centuries and where a collection of early medieval inscribed stones can be seen in situ. Ruins and reused stonework from the medieval college remain close to the churchyard, and small museums and information panels outline the town’s archaeology and medieval connections. Local amenities, a primary school and community spaces sit within easy walking distance of the shoreline, making the settlement both a working community and a point of access to the coast.
