About

The area covers the coastal stretch from Penarth seafront through to Sully village in the Vale of Glamorgan. Lower Penarth includes the Esplanade and the seafront where Penarth Pier meets the Wales Coast Path; the path follows the shoreline and gives views across the Severn Estuary. Streets behind the promenade lead up to the headland and connect to local shops, cafés and parks that serve residents and visitors. The shoreline alternates between pebble and sandy foreshore, with salt marsh and mudflats visible at low tide.

Sully sits east of Penarth and retains a village core around St John the Baptist church, whose fabric dates back to medieval times. Off the coast at Swanbridge, Sully Island lies just beyond the foreshore and can be reached on foot at low tide via a rocky causeway, an everyday landmark for walkers and for people studying coastal change. The ward combines seaside access, local services and stretches of the Wales Coast Path, used for short walks and for longer coastal sections toward the Vale of Glamorgan.
