Magor & Rogiet

Magor and Rogiet sit on the flat expanse of the Caldicot Levels in Monmouthshire, where a pattern of reens and drainage channels shapes farmland and pasture. A stretch of wetland known as Magor Marsh, managed by a local wildlife trust, preserves reedbeds and alder carr on former tidal ground. The villages grew where higher ground met the levels, and St Mary's Church in Magor remains a focal point with fabric from the medieval period. Narrow lanes link scattered farms, playing fields and village halls that serve a largely residential and agricultural community.

Rogiet is marked by the railway corridor and the cutting that carries the South Wales Main Line; Severn Tunnel Junction station lies within the parish and its sidings recall the area's role in railway operations. Field boundaries and hedgerows record long-standing patterns of enclosure, while drainage sluices and pumping locations show how the landscape is managed. Local footpaths cross former marshland and give access to views across the levels and the estuarine flats that form the immediate setting of the two villages.
