About

Newborough lies on the southwest coast of the Isle of Anglesey, bordered by Newborough Forest to the north and Newborough Warren and the beach to the south. The village sits close to the sands of Newborough Bay and looks across to Ynys Llanddwyn, a tidal island reached at low tide by a short causeway. On the island stands Tŵr Mawr, a 19th‑century stone lighthouse, and the ruins of St Dwynwen’s church, linking the shoreline to a long local tradition of pilgrimage and coastal navigation. Paths from the village thread into the forest and down onto the dunes, offering access to the shoreline and coastal viewpoints.

Local services are centred on a small cluster of shops and a parish hall, with seasonal visitor facilities at the forest car park. Management of the forest and the dune system aims to balance recreation with habitat protection; the dune system forms part of a wider coastal reserve. The transport link is mainly by road from Llanfairpwll and villages along the A4080, and the area is used for walking, birdwatching and shoreline study, with tidal changes shaping much of how people move between shore and island.
