About

Pen Y Fal ward covers the northern and western edges of the town of Abergavenny, incorporating the lower slopes of the Blorenge mountain and the surrounding residential areas. The geography is defined by the transition from urban streets to open hillside, with housing estates giving way to common land and wooded valleys. The area includes the Llanfoist suburb, historically linked to the local canal and ironworks, and is bordered by the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.

The ward's landscape is dominated by the prominent, flat-topped silhouette of the Blorenge, part of the Brecon Beacons National Park. This provides extensive walking routes and access to the moorland summit. Views from the higher ground look out over Abergavenny and the Usk Valley. The community is largely residential, with local services centred along Hereford Road and within the housing developments that characterise much of the ward's built environment.
