About

Rest Bay is a coastal electoral ward within Bridgend County Borough, centred around its namesake sandy beach. The area is primarily residential, with housing developments spread across the gentle slopes leading down to the shoreline. Its boundaries are largely defined by the Porthcawl townscape to the west and the open dunes of Merthyr Mawr to the east. The physical geography is dominated by the wide, west-facing bay itself, which is a significant feature of the Bristol Channel coastline.

The beach is a focal point for surfing and coastal walking, backed by concrete promenades and a large car park. Land use is a mix of private dwellings, some local amenities serving the community, and the substantial rest bay car park. The eastern extent of the ward borders the expansive dune system, which is part of a much larger conservation area. This creates a distinct transition from the built environment to protected natural landscapes.
