Risca West

Risca West is a ward in Caerphilly county borough covering the western side of the town of Risca. The area is mainly residential, with rows of terraced streets, pockets of post-industrial land and local retail along a few main roads. The township grew in the 19th century around coal and iron working, and traces of that history remain in street patterns and former industrial sites now repurposed for housing and light industry. Local governance is through Caerphilly County Borough Council and community groups that manage small parks and allotments.

Transport links connect the ward into the Ebbw Valley: the town is served by Risca and Pontymister station on the Ebbw Valley Railway, providing regular services toward Cardiff and Ebbw Vale. Footpaths and river corridors follow the valley and give direct walking and cycling routes to neighbouring parts of Risca. Community facilities include primary schools, community centres and small shopping parades that serve daily needs, while larger facilities and services are accessed within the broader Caerphilly borough.
