Selby West

Selby West ward lies directly west of Selby town centre, encompassing a mix of residential neighbourhoods and open land. The area includes the communities of Brayton and Thorpe Willoughby, which function as distinct villages with their own local facilities. Housing is primarily composed of post-war and modern estates, alongside some older properties. The ward is bordered by the A19 and A63 roads, which frame its western and southern edges, providing major transport links.

The landscape is largely flat, characteristic of the Vale of York, with agricultural fields separating the settlements. A notable feature is the presence of the Selby Canal, which runs through the western part of the ward, historically connecting to the River Ouse. Brayton Barff, a small, wooded hill, offers a prominent local viewpoint over the surrounding lowland. The ward's eastern boundary is defined by the railway line leading to the town's station.
