Shotton & Garden City

Shotton sits on the west bank of the River Dee, with its industrial history rooted in steelmaking. The area is defined by large-scale industrial sites and the Dee estuary's tidal flats. Adjacent to it, Garden City is a planned residential community, characterised by its grid-like street layout and rows of semi-detached houses built for steelworkers.

The landscape is dominated by the Wales Coast Path, which follows the estuary here, and the iconic blue-painted Jubilee Bridge connecting to Queensferry. Large areas of saltmarsh and mudflats provide important habitats for wading birds, creating a stark contrast with the industrial structures nearby.
