Solva ward lies along the sheltered inlet of a ria valley on Pembrokeshire's west coast. The area centres on the village of Lower Solva, with its harbour and stone-built houses lining the water. The landscape is defined by the steep, wooded sides of the valley that rise from the tidal reach of the River Solva. This natural harbour historically supported a shipbuilding and trading industry.

The ward extends inland to include the smaller Upper Solva and areas of surrounding farmland. The coastline here is part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, with the path leading to dramatic headlands. The distinctive geology includes the exposed rock of the Gribin, a ridge offering wide views over St Bride's Bay. The tidal nature of the harbour means its character changes completely between high and low water.
