About

St Asaph and Trefnant lie in the eastern part of Denbighshire, set where the River Elwy meanders through low-lying farmland. St Asaph is one of Britain’s smallest cities by population and is centred on St Asaph Cathedral, a building with medieval fabric and a long choral tradition; the cathedral close sits near the Elwy and links the town to riverside meadows and footpaths. The urban area combines a compact centre, parish streets and newer housing around main routes.

Trefnant stands a short distance west of St Asaph along local lanes and minor roads, keeping a village scale with a chapel, primary school and village hall. Surrounding fields, hedgerows and small woodlands provide the setting for walks and farmland enterprises; public rights of way lead from the village into the Elwy valley. The river influences land use here — wet meadows and riparian habitat support seasonal salmon and trout runs and attract anglers and birdwatchers, while small industrial and business units sit on the fringe of St Asaph.
