About

Treherbert ward lies in the upper Rhondda Fawr valley, forming the northernmost community within Rhondda Cynon Taf. The area is defined by its steep valley sides and the River Rhondda, with residential streets terraced along the hillsides. It functions as a local service centre for the upper valley, containing shops, community facilities, and public transport links, including the terminus of the restored Rhondda Line railway.

The landscape is marked by former industrial sites, with the tips of the old Treherbert colliery now partially reclaimed by vegetation. A prominent local feature is the Gelligaled park, a large green space with sports fields created on reclaimed land. The ward's layout and architecture are predominantly shaped by its history as a 19th-century coal mining settlement, with rows of traditional stone-built terraced houses.
