The area is situated near the confluence of the Taf and Cynon rivers, with the A4058 road running through it. It contains residential housing, local services, and areas of open land. The ward includes the communities of Upper Rhydfelen and the Glyn-taf area, forming part of the larger Pontypridd urban area.

The ward's landscape features river valleys and elevated ground. It is served by the Glyn-taf Primary School and is adjacent to the Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. The Taff Trail, a long-distance walking and cycling route, follows the River Taf through this area, connecting it to Cardiff and the Brecon Beacons.
