Ynysddu

Ynysddu ward sits within the Caerphilly county borough, encompassing the village of Ynysddu itself along with the neighbouring settlement of Cwmfelinfach. The area is defined by its position in the western Sirhowy Valley, with steep, wooded hillsides characterising much of its topography. Historically, the local economy was centred on coal mining, with several former collieries located in the valley. The landscape still bears the marks of this industrial past, which shaped the development of its communities.

The ward is traversed by the Sirhowy River and the A4048 road, which follows the valley floor. A notable local feature is the Nine Mile Point colliery industrial railway, a relic of the mining era. Land use is primarily residential, with some areas of open countryside and forestry on the valley slopes. The community is served by local amenities including primary schools and recreational grounds, maintaining its own distinct identity within the wider valley network.
