About

Bledlow and Cadmore End lie on the northern edge of the Chiltern escarpment, a landscape of chalk ridges, beech woodland and small arable fields. Bledlow Ridge rises above the lanes and footpaths that cross the parish, and a chalk cross cut into the scarp is visible from local tracks. Cadmore End sits on a minor ridge of the same geology, with a parish church and a village hall close to lanes lined by hedgerows and old orchards. The pattern of fields, commons and cottage plots shows long continuity of farming and seasonal work.

The Hambleden Valley runs south from the Chiltern slopes into a narrow river corridor where spring-fed streams reach low-lying meadowland. Hambleden village occupies a tight cluster beside the water, with a mill building at the riverside and a green used for community events. Woodland slopes and farmland rise from the valley floor, crossed by public footpaths and bridleways that link farms, lanes and small hamlets. The area is used for grazing, arable crops and managed woodland, and local conservation focuses on the valley’s wet meadows and headwater streams.
