The area is characterised by its quiet, leafy streets and a high proportion of 1930s detached and semi-detached houses. Its topography offers views across parts of west London, and it contains several private residential estates and gardens.

The ward is largely defined by its green spaces, most notably Hanger Hill Park and the Perivale Wood Local Nature Reserve, which is one of the oldest such reserves in the country. The Western Avenue (A40) forms a significant boundary, separating it from more commercial districts.
