Residential areas sit alongside shopping streets, community centres and a mix of schools and parks. Local administration and civic services are based in the town, and suburban streets lead into the surrounding neighbourhoods of Pinner, Wealdstone and North Harrow.

History and local institutions remain prominent. Harrow-on-the-Hill rises to about 124 metres and is home to the long-established Harrow School and the parish church of St Mary, whose tower is a local landmark. Headstone Manor and Museum records a medieval manor house and farm buildings preserved within the borough. Cultural activity centres on community theatres, library programmes and seasonal markets in the town centre, while short green corridors and playing fields link the settlements across the borough.
