About

The London Borough of Merton sits in south-west London and contains Wimbledon, Morden, Mitcham, Raynes Park and Colliers Wood. The All England Lawn Tennis Club and the grounds used for the Wimbledon Championships are in the borough, and each July the area around Church Road and the town centre sees an influx of visitors and temporary road changes. The River Wandle runs north through Merton, carving a corridor of former mills and parkland; Merton Abbey Mills sits on the Wandle and retains a market and workshops where the textile and printing history of the site is visible in converted mill buildings. Morden Hall Park, in the south of the borough, follows the river with lawns and listed water meadows managed by the National Trust.

Transport links include the Northern line terminus at Morden and mainline services from Wimbledon and Raynes Park, plus the tram link from Wimbledon through parts of the borough. Local high streets and markets reflect long-standing trades and community groups, and public open spaces such as Mitcham Common provide recreation and nature within the borough boundaries.
