About

Mumbles sits at the western end of Swansea Bay where a seafront promenade meets the headland. The village centre clusters around the curved bay and the Victorian pier, and Oystermouth Castle stands a short walk inland from the shore. Boats leave from the harbour and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution maintains a station at Mumbles Head. The area has a long transport history: the Oystermouth Railway, later called the Mumbles Railway, began carrying passengers here in the early 19th century and is often cited as the world's first passenger railway.

Newton lies immediately north of the bay, set above Langland and Caswell beaches, with lanes and residential streets that link down to the coastal footpaths. Local services, pubs and shops concentrate around the village core while footpaths climb the cliffs toward the headland and the Gower coast. The combination of shore access, the castle and the pier gives the area a clear maritime character and makes it a starting point for shorter walks along the bay and the clifftops.
