Pen-clawdd

Pen-clawdd is a community located on the northern edge of the Gower Peninsula, centred around a historic village of the same name. The area is characterised by its position on the flat, low-lying marshland of the Loughor estuary, with a landscape of reclaimed saltmarsh known locally as the Gower commons. This environment supports sheep grazing and is defined by a network of drainage ditches and tidal creeks.

The village itself has a linear layout along the main road, with residential streets extending into the surrounding area. Historically, Pen-clawdd was a significant centre for cockle gathering from the estuary beds, an industry that continues on a smaller scale today. The area is connected by a single bridge crossing the river to the north, and its open, low-level terrain provides expansive views across the water to the Carmarthenshire coastline.
