Sketty

Sketty is a suburb to the west of Swansea city centre, centred on Mumbles Road (A4118). The main commercial strip at Sketty Cross has shops, cafés and local services that serve the surrounding streets. Residential areas include terraces and interwar housing as well as later developments; some streets rise toward higher ground and offer views across to Swansea Bay. Singleton Park sits within Sketty and provides formal lawns, specimen trees and a botanic collection that backs the Swansea University Singleton Park campus on its northern edge.

Community life in Sketty is organised around its parks, schools and sports facilities. Singleton Park fields are used for matches and community events, and regular bus routes link the area with the city centre and the Pier to the south. Churches, primary schools and small shopping parades punctuate the suburb rather than a single town centre, so daily needs are met locally while main services remain in central Swansea. The mix of parkland next to the university campus shapes much of the area’s layout and everyday use.
