About

South Hornchurch is a residential ward located in the eastern part of the London Borough of Havering. It is situated south of the River Rom and is primarily characterised by suburban housing estates, with a mix of semi-detached and terraced homes from the interwar and post-war periods. The area includes the neighbourhoods of Rainham Village and part of the large Beam Park development, which is introducing new housing on former industrial land.

The ward contains significant areas of open space and industry along the Thames waterfront. Rainham Marshes, a large RSPB nature reserve of international importance for wetland birds, forms its southern boundary. This contrasts with the nearby operational industrial estates and the historic Rainham Hall, a National Trust property. The area is served by Rainham railway station, providing connections into central London.
