About

The London Borough of Havering sits at the northeastern edge of Greater London and includes Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster, Rainham and smaller villages such as Havering-atte-Bower. Romford is the administrative centre and its market has operated by charter since 1247. Parts of the borough face the River Thames and contain Rainham Marshes, an estuarine reserve managed for birds and flood storage. Large areas remain in the Metropolitan Green Belt, with Havering Country Park and Hornchurch Country Park providing long-established public open space.

Transport is a mix of suburban rail and arterial roads: Upminster is the eastern terminus of the District line, Romford is served by the Elizabeth line and national rail, and Rainham sees c2c services along the estuary. The A12 and A127 meet at Gallows Corner in Romford, forming key road links east and into central London. Local high streets, community halls and small industrial estates frame a borough where urban centres sit alongside marshes, parks and historic villages.
