West Gower occupies the western tip of the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, where the land meets the Bristol Channel. The coastline here includes cliff-edge paths, Rhossili Bay’s long sandy shore and the tidal promontory known as Worm’s Head, which can be reached on foot at low tide via a rocky causeway—tide times are essential for access. Much of the coast is National Trust property and is crossed by the Gower Coast Path, which links headlands and coves and follows both cliff tops and lower shorelines.
Inland the area is a patchwork of pasture, commons and small fields, with Rhossili Down rising behind the beach and providing open grazing and hilltop views. Villages such as Rhossili and Llangennith are small, with limited services and local car parks serving walkers and surfers; Llangennith has a surf break that draws boards and lessons. Farming, seasonal visitor facilities and a low density of housing shape day-to-day life, while traces of prehistoric activity appear on the downs and along the headlands.
