It is bordered by the boroughs of Enfield and Barnet to the west, with the North Circular Road forming a significant part of its northern boundary. The area is primarily residential, characterised by a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing, alongside inter-war and post-war estates. Its main commercial hub is located around Wood Green High Road, which lies just outside its eastern edge.

The ward includes the historic Bruce Castle Park, a large green space centred on a 16th-century manor house that now serves as a museum and archive. The park's grounds contain London's oldest surviving tennis courts, dating from the 1890s.
