The London Borough of Hillingdon occupies the western edge of Greater London and is the largest borough by area. It contains towns and villages including Uxbridge, Hayes, Ruislip, Northwood, West Drayton, Yiewsley, Ickenham, Harefield and Hillingdon village. Heathrow Airport sits partly within its boundaries and is a transport node alongside rail links such as the Metropolitan, Piccadilly and Elizabeth line services at Uxbridge, Ruislip and Hayes & Harlington, and road connections to the M4 and A40. The Grand Union Canal and the River Colne cross the borough.

Hillingdon hosts a mix of built and open land. Ruislip Lido and its narrow-gauge railway run beside the reservoir, serving local recreational use, while large tracts in the north form parts of the Colne Valley Regional Park. Uxbridge contains Brunel University campus and the Battle of Britain Operations Room preserved beneath the town centre. Local centres range from town high streets to village greens, with industrial and business areas clustered around Hayes and West Drayton.
